Notes on MOSS Server Services Account:

Thanks to the feedback I received from viewers I have noticed that some have problems with the domain users they have to create to install MOSS. I list all users in the video, so you can create them as you go. The Farm/Database account must be Domain Administrator and has administrative rights in the database. All other users may be only Domain Users. It is a good idea to make all domain users involved in the installation local administrators in the servers you are installing Sharepoint. If you have problems later with Search or other services it is probably because you have not add the users as local administrators in the MOSS Server.

 Using Local Administrator, 4/24/2008
Reviewer: Rodney Viana (Plano, TX)
Hi Hypergo,

Using local administrator if you only have a server in the farm will work but it is not recomended. First, you will have extra work everytime you change the adminitrator's password because you have to change it in the services identity as well. Second, you are giving full access to services you may want to limit. The rule of least privilege is a good policy to avoid hackers to take control of your computer in case one of the accounts is compromised. But again, it will work just fine if you have just one server in the farm and SQL is in the same computer. BE AWARE I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS!

Please let me know if it answered your question.

Thanks

Just wondering... do you really need to create a different user accounts or you can just use local "administrator" account for all the installation/services? In my case, I've been using just the local user administrator to install SQL Database and WS3.0. for quite sometime now and didnt have any problem at all. Can you share your views on this? Thanks!!!
